Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum Board Member,

Janeen Woellhof, Appointed as Interim Executive Director

Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum welcomes Janeen Woellhof as Interim Executive Director, following Elissa Linesʻ retirement in June 2024. In this role, Janeen will fulfill the Executive Director duties as the search continues for the next Executive Director.

Janeen's career spans a dual path of military service and business-sector experience.  She brings leadership experience in the Army Reserve at Fort Shafter in medical operations, training and logistics for mission-planning across the Pacific. She also brings valued leadership from business sector experience at Pacific Marine and Supply Co., Bayer Corporation, Goodwill Industries of Hawaii and Kuakini Health Systems. Most recently, as a Senior Talent Management Consultant at Kamehameha Schools, Janeen served as Change Management Lead, introducing enterprise-wide organizational enhancements and re-design of its leadership and development programs.

Our board is blessed with Janeen’s wide mix of senior business and industry acumen as well as career military leadership. She is a gifted blend of what is important to our Museum, and our decision to ask her to oversee our transition period during the continued search was a clear choice. In her role, the Museum’s senior leadership and key staff will find support and continuity for the many initiatives and day-to-day projects they lead.

Elissa relinquished her day-to-day operational leadership duties as Executive Director and pivots her focused efforts onto the completion of the Museum’s fundraising campaign initiatives in a consulting role.

Elissa’s impact on the Museum is immeasurable. Over the past decade, her visionary leadership has driven significant growth in visitation, market share, and donor support. Under her guidance, the Museum has undertaken transformative projects, including the acquisition and restoration of historic aircraft linked to the December 7th attack, and the restoration and reopening of the Ford Island Control Tower. In addition, she was the driver behind the creation and opening of the Aviation Learning Center. Thousands of local students and teachers have benefited from hands-on experiences, sparking a passion for aviation in countless young minds and exposing them to potential careers in aviation and aerospace. Her ability to secure groundbreaking exhibits, such as the historic Walt Disney Studios and World War II exhibition, demonstrates her exceptional leadership and strategic vision. Elissa has built a strong foundation for the Museum, empowering our dedicated staff and positioning the organization for continued success in the years to come.

Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum welcomes Janeen in her new role and extends a deep appreciation and gratitude to Elissa for all her accomplishments and successes.

When I was young I decided I wanted to be a doctor so I took the entrance exam to go to medical school.  One of the questions asked to rearrange the letters PNEIS into the name of an important human body part which is most useful when erect.  Those who answered "SPINE ” are doctors today.  The rest of us are sending jokes via email.

“Any advice I’ve ever been given that’s actually resonated has boiled down to a variation on the same basic theme: Life is short. Stop wasting it…. A million memes have bloomed from the Mary Oliver line, ‘Tell me, what is it you plan to do/ With your one wild and precious life?’ The message is consistent and irrefutable: Memento mori. Remember, you’re going to die. Or, if you prefer, YOLO (You only live once.)” Tim Kreider, essayist, cartoonist, author, “We Learn Nothing”; his cartoon, ‘The Pain – When Will It End? Has been collected in three books by Fantagraphics; born Feb. 25, 1967.

I prefer the positive, you only live once. Being prepared is an important part of the life you are living. I can help you prepare yourself for the inevitable no matter when it might arrive. We call it a Pre-Plan. Yes, you can take care of planning your end-of-life now and be sure that your loved ones will be able to follow your personal instructions. If you plan well in advance, you will prevent their suffering and sudden financial costs. Don’t know where to start? Give me a call. I will help you with your Pre-Plan for a traditional/casket or cremation. You can make the decisions now as to where you will be buried, or whether you want to be cremated and your ashes scattered, or whether you want a niche, a family plot, or have your own mausoleum, etc. You will be able to give peace of mind to those close to you and to yourself.

Please call me today. I can help you just like I have assisted more than 10,000 Hawaii families and individuals make their plans for cremation or burial. And, if you travel often, you can also purchase a lifetime travel plan for $499 that, in case you should die while away from Hawaii, will pay to bring your body back – a procedure that can cost thousands of dollars and occurs more often than you may think. This is something you can do that is positive and will be of help to family and friends alike.

A Pre-Plan is a very powerful thing to do. So please do this while you still can, and those who love you can celebrate your life with you while you rest easy, doing those things that make up your wild and precious life.

"I was on a train on a rainy day. The train was slowing down to pull into a station. For some reason I became intent on watching the raindrops on the window. Two separate drops, pushed by the wind, merged into one for a moment and then divided again -- each carrying with it a part of the other. Simply by that momentary touching, neither was what it had been before. And as each one went to touch other raindrops, it shared not only itself, but what it had gleaned from the other. I realized then that we never touch people so lightly that we don't leave a trace. Our state of mind matters to those around us, so we need to become conscious of what we unintentionally share so that we can learn to share with intention." - Peggy Tabor Millin
